Friends of the Cromford Canal - 18th October 2011
The new mailing lists for the Friends of the Cromford Canal are now online. Members can choose to receive the information they want, and it is hoped that this will eliminate the problems that have previously been caused by the use of the 'cromfordcanal' yahoo group, which has tended to suffer from periodically high traffic, much of which was inappropriate.
It is hoped that in the future the website will also include a discussion forum, at which point the yahoo group would be closed.

Friends of the Cromford Canal - 31st July 2011
The Friends of the Cromford Canal has won the 'Best Non-Commercial Stand' at the Inland Waterways Association Waterways Festival (formerly known as the IWA National Festival) for the second time in three years. The festival was held at the Shobnall Playing Fields, by the Trent & Mersey canal at Burton-on-Trent. Congratulations to the sales team for their success!!

Friends of the Cromford Canal - 23rd July 2011
A big thankyou to the Waterway Recovery Group canal camp who have just finished a week working on the Sawmills Gauging Narrows. A group of 17 volunteers, from as far north as Dundee and as far south as Watford, led by webmaster George Rogers and assisted by David Salisbury, commenced on the removal of tree roots and rebuilding of the off side wall. In total, approximately 10 metres of wall was completed to just below coping stone level, and around 10-15 metres was prepped ready for continuation by the FCC work parties.
A big thankyou to the following: Sue & Steve Johnson for being cook and MUP (Most Useful Person) respectively, Rob Lockwood for permission to work on the land, Gill & David Hirst for allowing us to use their toilet and the locals at Sawmills for being so free with their water and encouragement.

It is hoped that work will continue in late September. If you would like to help out, it is expected that there will be one weekend work party per month - contact the webmaster George Rogers for more information or to express interest in helping out. The work will be a mix of pulling down the next stretch of wall, stone sorting, concreting and rebuilding - so a great chance to learn new skills.
Friends of the Cromford Canal - 6th April 2011
Welcome to the new look FCC website, I hope you like it! The main aims for me in redesigning the website were to make the information contained more accessible, and to present more of the stuff you want to know quickly on the home page. The whole site is also easier for me to maintain now, which means that I should be able to keep it more up to date, and I can work on development of a few other features I've got in the pipeline for the future.
Obviously, almost no site ever works first time. If you find anything wrong, for example broken links or parts of pages that appear to have jumped around, or if you just want to comment on something in general, suggest improvements, extra links etc, then contact me at the webmasters address:

If you are telling me about problems, please can you also include the page address and details of the web browser you were using (program and version), and if possible a screenshot of the error.
Enjoy browsing, and I hope you learn as much about the Cromford Canal as I did when building the site.
