Langley Mill Lock, whilst being regarded as the head of the Erewash Canal is in fact the first lock of the Cromford. It was restored many years ago by the Erewash Canal Preservation & Development Association. The section of the canal stretching some 600 yards into the distance was excavated over a number of years to provide a dry dock and moorings. The Nottingham Canal joined the Cromford here: the swing bridge on the right of this picture leads to the present-day basin which was originally this canal.
